/ 01 · The challenge

Attorneys were spending substantial billable hours drafting routine documents — agreements, motions, filings that followed well-worn patterns. Clients paid attorney rates for what was largely assembly work, and the attorneys doing it were the first to call it a poor use of their training.

The firm faced the classic bind: routine drafting was burning out associates and inflating client bills, but every document still carried professional liability, so quality could not be delegated casually.

/ 02 · The build

We created an intelligent document automation system that generates complex legal documents from case parameters — pulling in the correct clauses, incorporating relevant precedents, and applying the firm's house style. Attorneys define the inputs; the system assembles the draft.

A compliance verification layer checks every generated document against jurisdiction and document-type requirements before it reaches review. Attorneys remain the final authority on every document, but they review structured, pre-validated drafts instead of building from blank pages.

/ 03 · The results

Document preparation time fell 75%, and the firm passed savings through: client costs for routine documents dropped 40%, a pricing move that has become a business development asset.

The error-free rate reached 98% — better than the manual baseline — and attorneys recovered 25 or more hours per week for the complex advisory and litigation work that justifies their rates. Associate satisfaction improved for reasons nobody needed a survey to explain.

The document automation system has transformed our practice. We're delivering higher quality work to our clients in less time and at lower cost, while our attorneys can focus on the complex legal work that requires their expertise.
